City Councilman Justin Brannan Endorses Sandra Ung for City Council
FLUSHING, N.Y. —
Today, City Councilman Justin Brannan endorsed Sandra Ung for City Council in the 20th Council District. Brannan, who represents the 43rd Council District, cited Sandra's commitment to public service and history of advocacy in his endorsement. Throughout his tenure on the Council, Councilman Brannan has been a champion of working and middle class families and has prioritized securing increased funding for the outer boroughs. He is also a prominent advocate for keeping the SHSAT and expanding access to free test prep in schools to help students prepare for the SHSAT.
Councilman Brannan said, "As we work towards a just recovery from the pandemic, we need individuals who have devoted their lives to public service in City Hall. Both as an attorney representing victims of domestic violence and through her work in government, Sandra has a proven track record of delivering real results for New Yorkers. I am proud to endorse Sandra Ung for City Council, and I look forward to working with her to advocate for our working families."
Sandra Ung said, "I'm honored to receive the endorsement of Councilman Brannan. Councilman Brannan has been a steadfast advocate for working families in the City Council. I look forward to working with the Councilman to make sure the outer boroughs, including Queens, get their fair share of city funds."
Sandra has long called for increased funding to be allocated to Flushing and northeast Queens. With Councilmember Brannan's endorsement joining endorsements by City Councilpersons Carlina Rivera, Costa Constantinides, Peter Koo and Adrienne Adams, it has become clear that Sandra Ung is the only candidate in the race to replace term-limited Councilmember Koo that would be able to build a coalition of support to bring increased funding to Flushing. That funding would allow for more sanitation services, better maintained parks and more opportunities for small businesses.
Sandra has also been endorsed by Congresswoman Grace Meng, State Senator Toby Stavisky, State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic and State Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz.

PRESS RELEASE
Congresswoman Grace Meng Petitions for Sandra Ung
On Sunday, March 14th, Congresswoman Grace Meng joined City Council Candidate Sandra Ung to collect signatures outside Fay Da Bakery in Downtown Flushing. As they spoke with passersby, the Congresswoman urged voters to support Sandra in the June 22nd democratic primary to replace term-limited Councilmember Koo.
This is the first time that Congresswoman has petitioned for any candidates in the 2021 City Council races, a sign of her strong support for Sandra Ung’s campaign.
Sandra Ung is currently the only candidate in the District 20 primary election to have the endorsements of any elected officials. She already has the endorsements of officials on the local, state and federal level, including Congresswoman Grace Meng, State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, State Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz and City Councilperson Carlina Rivera. With numerous issues related to recovering from the pandemic requiring concerted action between different levels of government, these relationships are critical for effective governance.
In order to have your name appear on the ballot, Council Candidates must collect 270 signatures from registered Democrats within their districts. Sandra Ung has already collected several times the required number by going door to door with her team and a large group of volunteers. Sandra and her volunteers will continue to knock on doors and hope to speak with more voters during the process.
Sandra Ung’s campaign is confident they will reach their goal for signatures by Thursday, March 18th, nearly a week before the legal deadline. Voters who would like to sign a petition to get Sandra’s name on the ballot can call her downtown Flushing campaign office at (718) 521-6192.
